Tis the Season...For Ledum!

Homeopathy is the #1 way I like to treat my families illnesses and conditions.  I have been using only natural remedies for the past 3 years and have had great success treating things from colds to fighting off Lyme disease.  Which leads me to the title of this entry.

I first learned about Ledum when I noticed one day a tick sticking out of my then 2 year old's forehead.  I immediately called my ND (naturopathic doctor) in a complete panic.  She talked me through how to remove the tick and drove Ledum to my house immediately.  She took her dose and never developed the Lyme rash or any other Lyme symptom. http://arthritis.webmd.com/tc/lyme-disease-symptoms

Ledum 30C is one of the handful of remedies that I keep in my purse "first aid kit". It is a homeopathic remedy used mostly for puncture wounds (injury deeper then wider).  Although as with any remedy it can be used for multiple things.  http://abchomeopathy.com/r.php/Led

Things you can commonly use Ledum 30C for and why it should be in your First Aid Kit as well:

  • Tick bites
  • Any type of bug bite
  • Bee stings (if cold to the touch)
  • Black Eye Bruises
  • Minor puncture wounds from stepping on things or getting poked

Also, it's great to take if you are getting a piercing!

How *we* fought off H1N1

It was a typically friday at a friends house for a play date.   Toward the end of the afternoon my daughter's friend started not feeling well.  I was called the next morning and told that she took a turn for the worse and they were on their way to Children's Hospital to be tested for H1N1.
I want to immediately say that this little girl is now as healthy as can be and everything is ok!!  She did end up having H1N1 and it progressed to pneumonia.

There is so much scary information out there right now surrounding H1N1.  The media is making it out to be this deadly flu, but in reality it is just the flu.  It is a new strand and therefore not many people have built up immunities to it.  However, that doesn't mean I wanted my 3 kids to get it.
The first thing I thought to do was how to build up our immune system.  The kids got a dose of Vitamin D 1000IU's for my 6 and 4 year old I gave my 1 year old 400IU's.  I take 5000IU's of Vitamin D daily as it is, so I was set!  I gave the Vitamin D dose once a day for 3 days.  I also gave all of us the homeopathic flu/cold remedy Oscillococcinum.  The box says to take a whole tube worth 3 times a day.  I did not do that.  I gave everyone in the household 4 pellets once a day for three days as well.  Doctor's say the incubation period for H1N1 is 3 to 4 days so that is why I choose that time frame.
$17 and 4 days later our family was healthy and we avoided the highly contagious H1N1 Swine flu virus!
I added the Vitamin D and Oscillococcinum to my Amazon Must Have's if you are interested in buying!

First Blog jitters and a bit about me.

I have been hesitant to write my first blog because of jitters. Due to a few persistent friends and because Sakura Bloom had encouraged me with a wonderful contest I am going to start.
I thought I would just write about why I am afraid to start writing. I feel like the first entry really sets the stage of a person's blog. What if I wrote something that turned everyone off to my blog or just didn't make sense. I am way too much of a perfectionist to want that to happen!
I want this blog to be a place where I can write about natural remedies that I am passionate about and have used. I used homeopathy, herbs, flower essences, babywearing and breastmilk to cure almost every ailment that comes into our house. Some would say I am a bit obsessive about it all and it is all I talk about. How can I not? When you see something work so well for your most loved ones, it's hard not to get passionate about it. It is then equally hard not to talk about something you are passionate about with your friends!
I am sure it is pretty easy to see how homeopathy, herbs and flower essences can be used to cure family ailments. But what?? Babywearing? Breatmilk? How would you use those things to "cure" illnesses?
Easy! Babywearing is a great way to comfort your sick child. From newborn age to age 3 or so. I have used babywearing often myself; not just for daily traveling but as medicine.
When my children were first born, I would wear my baby with no shirt on and baby naked as well. This process really helped with milk production and bonding! When my breast would start to get clogged the best medicine was to wear my child and let them nurse often. The plugged duct was usually cured in 24 hours.
What about breatmilk; shouldn't that just be used for infant food?
Sure it is the superior infant food, but it can be used to aid in healing cuts, pink eye, chapped lips, and nasal congestion just to name a few of the common things.
Well, I hope this works. The first blog entry is officially posted! I hope this gets and keeps me going.
